By broadcasting the results, “the power of radio was proven when people could hear the results of the Harding-Cox presidential race before they read about it in the newspaper,” according to PBS.

Dozens of other stations began to pop up across the US following the success of KDKA’s broadcast, giving advertisers a new way to reach consumers.

The Marketing Moments book will be available to buy online, 1 December.
