Apple signs up ex Nest technology chief to spearhead fresh health push
Apple has recruited former Nest’s highly regarded technology chief Yoky Matsuoka to lead its own push into health related gadgets.
Matsuoka will report directly to Jeff Williams, head of Apple’s Watch and health divisions.
In her new role Matsuoka has been tasked with giving oversight to Apple’s various health related ‘Kit’ initiatives such as HealthKit, ResearchKit and CareKit. The most recent of these, CareKit, allows developers to build apps dedicated to managing personal health data and sharing this with doctors.
The robotics expert began her career as a professor at Carnegie Mellon University prior to co-founding Google’s X Lab in 2009 before going on to join Nest as head of technology – after being head hunted by co-founder Matt Rogers whom she once taught.
Matsuoka has a personal stake in health improvements having turned down a post at Twitter last year after being diagnosed with a potentially life threatening illness, from which she has now recovered.
