Amazon Studios is reportedly positioning itself as a producer of virtual reality content as it seeks to market itself as a major player in the year’s hottest tech trend.

A report in the Wrap suggests that Amazon Studios has conducted a number of early discussions about possible contributions to the sector, although as yet none of this is set in stone.

Amazon is keen to get its foot in the door early in order to cement is position as a purveyor of quality TV and movies through its Amazon prime service, as more and more consumers become exposed to a wave of immersive headsets hitting the market.

Current speculation builds on reports two months ago that Amazon was quietly assembling an in-house VR team in order to build a ‘platform and interface for immersive storytelling’.
