Natalie Mortimer, reporter at The Drum, takes us through the highs and lows of Advertising Week Europe’s second day - including some eyebrow-raising comments from F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone.

Ecclestone was invited to an extended interview session with WPP boss Sir Martin Sorrell. His choice comments included: "[Immigrants] have not made a contribution,” "[Vladimir Putin] should be running Europe,” and "Women wouldn’t be taken seriously in Formula One.” You can read an even wider selection of his insightful views in our round-up report.

While Bernie dominated the #AWEurope hashtag on Twitter, elsewhere the likes of Spotify and Clear Channel announced plans to trade 100% programmatically in the next five years. However Sky Media’s head of digital, David Fisher, said he believed regulation is holding back broadcasters from heading in a similar direction.

The subject of women was, again, a hot topic. The Do We Really Believe That "This Girl Can”? session saw Under Armour’s EMEA marketing director comment that brands have become lazy with their female storytelling.

Advertising Week Europe is taking place at London’s Picturehouse Central and around Piccadilly until 21 April. Keep an eye on our dedicated hub for all the breaking news from the event, and watch for The Drum's day three recap with iCrossing tomorrow.
