JD Wetherspoons, Carphone Warehouse and Patisserie Valerie bosses join Brexit support
The campaign for Britain to exit the EU has been bolstered by a group of 250 business bosses vocally supporting the 'Brexit' push, including leaders at JD Wetherspoons, Carphone Warehouse and Patisserie Valerie.
Unveiled today the list of businesses also includes ex HSBC chief exec Michael Geoghegan who announced his support of Vote Leave ahead of the 23 June referendum.
“The UK’s businesses and in particular its financial services sector would thrive outside the EU if the country votes to leave,” Geoghegan told the Financial Times.
A YouGov study of small and medium-sized firms commissioned by the group found that 32 per cent said the EU hinders businesses like theirs, while 25 per cent said it helped them, 40 per cent said it made no difference.
But according to rival campaign Britain Stronger in Europe a report by the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) found that of nearly 800 businesses across the UK eight out of ten backed staying in the EU.
