The Guardian use picture of wrong player in tribute to Johan Cruyff
The Guardian published a photo of the wrong player alongside a tribute spread to footballer Johan Cruyff today (25 March).
The newspaper paid homage to the Dutch footballer, who passed away yesterday, in a full-page editorial in the sports section.
But alongside the obituary was a picture of a different Dutch footballer, Rob Rensenbrink.
Readers of the Guardian took to Twitter to comment on the error.
Well done to @guardian . Paying tribute to Johan Cruyff by using a picture of Rob Resenbrink. #Ballsup pic.twitter.com/MfHsU5dtAw

The Guardian are not the first to use the wrong picture of Cruyff - Manchester United’s French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin posted a photo of Jan Jongbloed, the Dutch goalie from Holland’s 1974 World Cup campaign, in an Instagram post paying homage to the late footballer. To make things worse, he also spelled the deceased’s name wrong, calling him “Yoan Cruyff”.
