Under Armour is set to make its next big push in the sports footwear market with the debut of its first golf shoe ahead of this year’s Masters.

The Baltimore-based sports brand will mark its long-awaited entry into the golf footwear market with the release of the Under Armour Drive One shoes which Jordan Spieth has been wearing for much of his professional career.

The announcement on Under Armour’s website reveals that the Drive One shoes will finally be available on 4 April, three days before Spieth defends his Masters title at Augusta National.

It’s not clear whether this was an intentional move to help generate demand but it appears to have done so, with pre-orders for the Drive One shoes already listed as sold out on its website.

The world number one has been sporting Under Armour golf shoes for over two years and even had an input in the design process, however the company never made them available for public sale.

Under Armour initially signed Spieth in 2013 when he turned pro and has since tied the 22 year-old up in a ten year deal which will make him the face of its golf division until 2025. The Texan-born golfer also recently signed a major sponsorship deal with Coca-Cola.

The brand will hope that its golf shoes can replicate the success of its basketball footwear division which Morgan Stanley has projected will this year overtake Nike’s billion Dollar LeBrone James shoe division.
