Los Angeles residents are being asked to support their city's bid to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games through a series of Snapchat Geofilters.

Imploring sports fans to 'follow the sun', the partnership will invite users to use location-based artistic overlays to enhance their snaps with a decal of the official LA 2024 logo which was unveiled last week.

Geofilters will be available at a variety of venue clusters including UCLA and Santa Monica Pier, USC, Coliseum and LA Live and the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area.

The campaign aims to mobilise Angelenos to get behind their hometown and is looking to appeal to Snapchat's 100-million strong userbase, the majority of which are 13 to 34 years-old.

LA 2024 chief executive Gene Sykes said: “Our partnership with Snapchat perfectly reflects LA 2024’s commitment to re-connecting young people with the Olympic Movement by harnessing Los Angeles’ culture of creativity, innovation and youthful energy.

"The storytelling power of our city’s creative community means that Los Angeles is uniquely positioned to reignite passion and belief in Olympism. If we had the honor of hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2024, it would provide LA and America with a platform for unprecedented youth engagement, inspiring healthy living and even greater social cohesion through sport," he added.

Last week (25 February) the sunshine city revealed its logo and branding for the Olympic bid, gathering together over 100 Olympians and Paralympians to launch its campaign.
