Independent family distillers William Grant & Sons - which owns brands from Sailor Jerry to Glenfiddich - has appointed agency Splendid Communications to run the global communications on Hendrick’s gin and The Balvenie whisky following a competitive five way pitch worth six figures.

The Splendid team, led by chief executive Alec Samways, will develop an integrated Hendrick’s communications platform and run a creative press office for potential activation in over 80 markets to drive trial and advocacy. The press office function will provide markets with inspiration, ideas and associated assets to help bring the Hendrick’s world alive for consumers at local level.

The team will also develop a global communications strategy to push The Balvenie’s status as "the most handcrafted single malt Scotch whisky".

David North, global brand communications manager at William Grant & Sons, said: "These are dream briefs for an agency and the Splendid Communications team demonstrated an affinity and impressive combination of creative ideas, strategic insight and smart thinking."

Samways added: "Working with William Grant & Sons gives us the opportunity to work with two exceptional brands. Both brands have such unique personalities – we’re as excited to explore the most unusual world of Hendrick’s as we are to learn and share the history and depth of The Balvenie."
