Nando's has revealed the winners of its Hot Young Designer competition at Design Indaba 2016, as it continues to strengthen its ties to its South African roots.

The high-end fast food restaurant chose South African interior designer Thabiso Mjo and interior design student Samantha Foaden, who both designed light fittings that will feature in Nando's restaurants across the globe.

The collection is limited edition and only 100 of the designs will be produced and displayed.

Last month Nando's revealed its first new brand identity in 10 years, which shows a greater prominence of the brand's South African heritage amid tougher competition in the high-end fast food market with the growing popularity of brands such as Five Guys, Gourmet Burger kitchen and Wagamama.

In an interview with The Drum last year co-founder Robbie Brozin explained the new focus on South Africa and why he wants the country to “own the soul of the brand” once more.
