Los Angeles, candidate city for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is inviting the world to follow the sun as it launches its official logo and slogan to win support for its bid.

The sunshine city is determined to bring the event back to the United States for the first time in 28 years and gathered together over 100 Olympians and Paralympians to bolster its case at the launch event.

The bid brand depicts a soaring figure said to symbolise the aspirations of athletes and the thrust of optimism and progress represented by the City of Angels and wider state of Southern California, with rays of light emanating from the figures heart.

Employing deep blues and purples redolent of sunrise and sunset the logo fits nicely into the LA 2024 slogan of 'Follow the Sun'.

USOC chief marketing officer Lisa Baird said: “I believe this is just the beginning of the immense creative potential we’re going to see from the LA Olympic 2024 bid. I love the feeling of optimism and progress that is captured by the logo’s design and the sense of promise in the message of the theme. With the prospects of marrying sport, innovation and entertainment in new ways, LA 2024 can be a new beginning for California, our nation and the Olympic Movement worldwide.”

Both the logo and accompanying presentation were conceived by LA-based creative agency 72andSunny in accordance with official brand guidelines laid down by Bruce Mau Design.
