Nordstrom unveils plans for Manhattan flagship store

Seattle-based fashion specialty retailer, Nordstrom, has released plans for an impressive flagship store in New York City. Unveiling the footprint and exterior design for the first time, the store will include four properties in the Columbus Circle neighborhood of Manhattan along Broadway between West 57th and 58th streets.

The properties include both existing, historic buildings as well as new construction at the base of Central Park Tower, where unique modern glass facades will play a prominent role. Additionally, Nordstrom plans to restore or rebuild the street-level facades of the other building to evoke their original design.

"We're building in the context of the world's greatest stores in the best retail city in the world and our ambition is to create an entire experience that reflects the best of what we have to offer," said Pete Nordstrom, co-president, Nordstrom, Inc. "We think the modern exterior glass design combined with the historical renovations honor both the past and future of Manhattan. We look forward to the day when we can open our doors and welcome customers.”

The approximately 363,000 square foot store is expected to open in 2019.

I am the North America editor for The Drum. A geographic mutt, I was born in Minnesota (lived outside of Minneapolis until I was 12), lived in suburban Philadelphia, attended college in Denver and London — and have proudly called Portland, Oregon (and the Pacific Northwest) my home for 24 years.

Sadly, I love Philadelphia/Portland/Oregon sports and Arsenal.

I am deeply committed to telling the best stories possible, to not only legitimately engage, but to contribute something meaningful to the industry as well. Yes, marketing can change the world, and we will always do our best to ensure we are doing our part.
