Twitter is testing a new GIF button on its mobile app, with multiple users taking to the platform to try and find out more about the mysterious feature.

The button reportedly lets users search for trending GIFs or pick the moving images from a variety of set categories which cater to different moods.

The new icon appears to be in testing mode, being only available to a few select users. It's not yet clear if Twitter has partnered with a GIF search engine to help populate its library, as Tinder did with Giphy earlier this month.

Jumping on the GIF bandwagon will help Twitter catch up with Facebook and Tumblr, both of which have already introduced integration into posts.
