Microsoft to snap up AI based smartphone predictive keyboard maker Swiftkey
Microsoft has dug deep into its pockets to find $250m in cash to fund the acquisition of Swiftkey, a start-up specialising in AI powered smartphone keyboards.
Terms of the deal will follow in an official announcement but it is understood that staff have already been informed.
London based Swiftkey has enjoyed a rapid uptake amongst Android and iOS devices and is now used on an estimated 500m smartphones thanks to the promise of significant time savings by auto-completing messages.
The business has enjoyed prominent support from the likes of angel investor Stephen Fry with even professor Stephen Hawking getting in on the act after the team upgraded his communication interface.
