AOL UK promotes from within for commercial director role

AOL UK has appointed Gavin Johnson, vice president of sales in the UK for Millennial Media, to commercial director to lead the AOL UK sales team.

Johnson joined the business during AOL’s $238m acquisition of Millennial Media, holding the position of vice president of sales in the UK since November 2014.

A commercial director Johnson will be responsible for driving advertising revenue and growth across AOL UK’s content, video, and programmatic platforms, including The Huffington Post UK, MSN, Skype, Engadget, XBox and TechCrunch.

Particular focus will be given to growing AOL’s overall mobile revenues in the UK.

Johnson, who will report to Stuart Flint, managing director of AOL UK, previously held roles at Specific Media, Virgin Media and ITV.

He commented: "I’m delighted to be taking on this new role at AOL, a company that has truly transformed itself in the past few years into a top player in content, video, mobile and programmatic."

The company recently lost its UK managing director Hamish Nicklin to The Guardian, replaced by Stuart Flint.
