Laurence Simpson, author of sabotaging novel ‘According to The Daily Mail’, spent three weeks promoting the novel on the MailOnline, completely undetected.

In his novel Simpson attacks the print and websites of ‘tacky tabloids’, with a primary focus on the MailOnline. Ironically enough, he managed to promote his novel in over 300 comments on various articles across the Daily Mail’s website before he was caught and banned from any further posts.

On his sneaky success Simpson said: “I couldn’t believe I was getting away with it. I even made a mistake once and posted a comment on an article whose comments were ‘moderated in advance’ - and still it appeared on the site a few seconds later.”

His sabotage certainly went down well with readers, with the number of ‘likes’ for his comments from other readers far outweighing the ‘dislikes’ by a margin of 2,424.

“Sales are doing rather well,” Simpson observed.
