The fourth quarter of 2015 marked the first ever profitable period for Newsweek across EMEA, along with a considerable increase in online traffic to the European site, its owners IBT Media revealed today (20 January).

It comes after a year of growth and investment in the title.

In the last quarter of 2015 advertising revenues were up by 327 per cent year-on-year with overall revenue up by 90 per cent. This success has been cited as a result of Newsweek's three-pronged strategy of increasing print and digital advertising as well as subscriptions across Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Online traffic to europe.newsweek.com has also shown an uplift of 250 per cent in January compared to year end 2015.

Recent hires across Newsweek's Europe newsroom, with the appoitment of a new digital editor and deputy online news editor, come as part of the news outlet's broadening of its editorial offering and expansion of its European operations. IBT Media also recently appointed Greg Witham as its first chief operation officer for the UK and EMEA to spur the business’s global growth.

The media group is also investing in its multimedia output to better integrate video within stories and keep pace with media's growing shift to video in 2016, with investment in mobile content forming an integral part of Newsweek's stategy this coming year.

Since offering brands a full advertising solution that covers programmatic and direct, display and native, Newsweek’s advertising business has come to account for 70 per cent of the title’s overall revenue.
