LinkedIn UK signs up 20 million members

Professional networking site LinkedIn has revealed it has now signed up 20 million members in the UK bringing the platforms reach to 58 per cent of the country’s working population.

The milestone was breached following a surge in new sign-ups over the course of 2015 with 2m new users registering for the platform. Indeed the social media site has enjoyed steady growth since 2009 having gained some 17m members.

Henry Clifford-Jones, LinkedIn’s UK director of marketing solutions, said: “At LinkedIn we are delighted and humbled that more than 20 million professionals are now using LinkedIn in the UK.

“With more than 400 million members globally, LinkedIn is the place where professionals gather. And they come with a unique purpose; to get ahead at work. Our 20 million UK members present a unique opportunity for brands. Using our unrivalled insights into the way these professionals engage with content, they can connect with the right segment, at the right time, and with the right message.”

Marketers are amongst the best represented professions with 265,000 members - alongside engineers, accountants, teachers and nurses.
