Google Maps ‘driving mode’ algorithm to predict travel destinations
Google Maps is aiming to stay one step ahead of the competition (and its own users) by introducing a new ‘driving mode’ algorithm which promises to predict your intended destination before you’ve even typed it in.
Taking into account past history and current location the software will model travel times and traffic conditions to determine the optimal route – even in instances where you know where you’re going.
Previously users had to manually enter their destination to receive such information.
The new feature will be fully integrated into the existing app through a sidebar and will come with its own shortcut icon in the latest build of Google Maps, version 9.19, which is currently in process of being rolled out to the Google Play store.
