Google is teaming up with automotive heavyweight Ford to bring to fruition its self-driving car project.

Three sources reportedly confirmed to Yahoo Autos that the deal will benefit each brand – with Google drawing from Ford’s auto expertise and Ford from Google’s self-driving software development.

Sharing the data it has gathered during the millions of miles of autonomous journeys made by its fleet of self-driving cars, Google will pool its resources with Ford. It is however unclear whether the enterprise would see the production of a co-branded automobile.

The report claims that the deal will be non-exclusive, meaning Google is also free to work with other auto firms as it wishes to further its goals.

The partnership will reportedly be unveiled in earnest at the Consumer Electronics Show as the start of 2016.
