Netflix is continuing its mission to assist viewers in their gruelling marathon sessions with another do-it-yourself invention in the form of a pair of socks that can detect when the user has fallen asleep and pauses the programme.

Partnering once again with design company, Deeplocal- the company behind the Netflix button- Netflix has unveiled the socks in a new ad showcasing their capabilities.

Using a motion detection system known as actigraphy, the socks trigger a signal to the TV that pauses Netflex after a prolonged period of no movement.

Describing the process, Netflix says that when a user dozes off “an LED light in the cuff of the sock flashes red, warning that the pause signal is about to be sent to your TV. Any motion will stop it from firing".

“The accelerometer is very sensitive to little movements, so it's good at detecting when you're just sitting still, raptly watching Netflix, and when you've actually fallen asleep."

As was the case with the Netflix button, the invention will not be sold by Netflix, rather a step-by-step guide is laid out on makeit.netflix.com.
