Comcast eyes ITV takeover for UK foothold
ITV has attracted interest from US broadcast giant Comcast which would give the company a substantial foothold in the UK.
NBCUniversal owner Comcast has reportedly had two talks with ITV executives as the corporation looks to pick up the UK’s largest commercial broadcaster.
ITV, rated at £10.5bn in the FTSE and has previously attracted the interest of Virgin Media owner Liberty Global. It went on to acquire a 9.9 per cent stake in the company
ITV refused to comment on the talks when approached by the Times.
The speculation comes during a period of transition for British media's mainplayers with cuts at the BBC, the potential privatisation of Channel 4 and Viacom’s acquisition of Channel Five last year.
