Teens are being warned not to play with fire in the latest bizarre social media craze to sweep the internet, which involves pouring flammable liquid over your body and setting it alight before dousing the flames.

Fire Challenge

This follows reports of an 11 year-old boy requiring skin grafts after participating in the challenge which has seen teens videoing themselves for YouTube and Facebook in front of shocked onlookers.

Oliver Sharp of Barnetby, near Scunthorpe, set his T-shirt alight as a dare whilst alone in his room.

Warning others against similar activities Steve Pratten, East Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “A young boy’s life has been permanently affected. It is a dangerous craze. It defies logic and I can’t understand why anyone would want to set themselves on fire. Burns are painful and can be life-threatening and life-changing.”

Previous social media crazes to hit the headlines include the ‘pass-out’ challenge in which teenagers strangle one another in front of a camera.
