Jon Snow says he would 'defend the BBC to the death'
Jon Snow has said he would “defend the BBC to the death”, describing the corporation as “pretty good” at a time when the British media was in decline.
The longstanding Channel 4 journalist made the comments during a question-and-answer thread as part of Reddit’s Ask Me Anything (AMA) series in which he argued media owners were hurting the industry.
He said he felt that there had been a “negative pull on the British media” and blamed “some of the proprietors for that”.
Praising the under fire corporation, Snow added: “I still think the BBC is pretty good and I would defend it to the death, even though I have never worked for it.”
The 68 year-old also discussed his opposition to the proposals of a privatised Channel 4 and urged Reddit readers to lobby their MPs to oppose it.
“If the government sold it off, they wouldn’t give you the money, and whatever followed afterwards would not be able to afford channel 4 News,” he said.
Snow was critical of the media’s reporting of Jeremy Corbyn. He said that some of those reporting about the Labour leader were “experiencing some kind of fear”, adding: “I think they may need to see a psychiatrist.”
The AMA session also revealed that despite his age, Snow has no plans to retire anytime soon.
