They will be joined by 90min.com, The Economist, Hearst as well as Manchester Evening News, The Mirror and Wales Online - all Trinity Mirror titles.

Instant Articles seeks to enable publishers to create fast, interactive articles that can be inserted directly into newsfeeds as well as take advantage of Facebook’s native mobile infrastructure to load articles in less than a second, as opposed to up to 8 seconds at present.

New functionality includes the ability to zoom, peruse interactive maps by tilting the phone, auto-play videos and the ability to like and comment on specific parts of articles.

Nick Wrenn, Head of Media Partnerships, EMEA at Facebook, said: “Media organisations and journalists are an integral part of Facebook, and we’re committed to delivering tools that create the best experience for publishers and readers. We’re excited to be expanding the adoption of Instant Articles to help distribute fast, interactive articles to the 36 million people in the UK using Facebook every month.”

Many international publishers having already committed; including The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC, The Atlantic, BBC News, Bild and Spiegel.
