Samsung sets off down road toward driverless cars
South Korean electronics giant Samsung has become the latest player to throw its hat into the driverless car ring with plans to establish a new division focussed entirely on producing technology and components required for driverless cars.
Focussing primarily on infotainment systems and driverless autonomous software the move comes as the firm seeks to diversify its business amidst slowing sales at its flagship smartphone division.
The shake-up was announced as part of an annual reorganisation of Samsung’s management team which saw the firm replace mobile division head JK Shin with DJ Koh.
Similar moves have already been made by LG Electronics and Apple with Google leading the way in testing its own fleet of driverless cars.
Samsung has not yet divulged how large the new unit will be.
