The BBC has begun rolling out skippable trailers for related programming on its iPlayer website before expanding the format across all platforms in 2016.

This will see a short snippet run for a BBC show other than the one you are about to watch in advance of it streaming, advertising either related content or previewing new content ahead of broadcast.

Each teaser trailer will be accompanied by a bright pink ‘skip trailer’ button allowing users to bypass content they do not wish to view. For those whose interest is piqued however a bookmark option will be made available, allowing the show in question to be highlighted for future viewing when it becomes available.

The new approach follows the success of separate dedicated trailers on the service, the most popular of which can receive as many as a million requests.
