People on the move: Hires and departures at Twitter, ESPN, Digital Spy and more

This week has seen another wave of appointments and departures at brands, media owners and agencies. The Drum has rounded up the key hires below.

Twitter

Twitter UK's head of brand strategy Will Scougal has left the company to join Snapchat's UK launch where he will serve as head of creative strategy.

Scougal, who joined Twitter from Chime Communications, was responsible for setting up its brand strategy team from 2012 as it grew its European offer.

The company has also promoted sales director Dara Nasr to the role of managing director following the promotion of Bruce Daisley to vice president of direct sales for Europe earlier this year.

Nasr will become Twitter's most senior person in the UK in the new year.

ESPN

Undertone has appointed former ESPN head of sales, Rob Garber, as managing director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Garber will be responsible for leading the agency’s EMEA team and will oversee its operations throughout the region. He will be based at the company’s EMEA headquarters in London and will report to chief revenue officer, Greg Glenday.

Digital Spy

Hearst Magazines has appointed former Heat editor Julian Linley as editor-in-chief of Digital Spy ahead of a re-launch of the media brand.

A new approach will see greater emphasis placed on video, images and social sharing with a view towards transforming the platform into a global entertainment news brand.

The Drum

The Drum is to expand its coverage into Asia Pacific with the hiring of Charlotte McEleny as Asia editor.

From December, McEleny, currently digital editor at Marketing, will be tasked with leading the growth of The Drum's coverage of the media and marketing sector in the region, and will relocate from London to Singapore early in 2016.

Erwin Penland

South Carolina-based Erwin Penland has announced that its chief client officer Joe Saracino will take on the role of president at the beginning of next year.

He will succeed the agency’s founder and president Joe Erwin, who co-founded the shop nearly 30 years ago and is retiring at the end of this year.

FCB Inferno

FCB Inferno, London division of the global advertising network, has appointed Elspeth Lynn to serve as its group creative director, a role which will see her report directly to joint chief creative officers Al Young and Owen Lee.

Working with clients including BMW, Beiersdorf and Sport England Lynn brings a quarter of a century of industry experience to the position, most recently in the position of executive creative director at M&C Saatchi where she has served since 2012.

23red

23red has appointed Marcus Hernon to the new position of client partner overseeing a portfolio of private sector clients.

With 15 years’ experience in the industry, including as board director level at agency Iris and most recently as client partner at Saatchi Masius where he was responsible for Heathrow Airport and PWC, the company has said Hernon is ideally placed to build its client portfolio.

He will work closely with the management team to drive further business success for 23red.

Precedent

Precedent has announced that Peter Nazarov has joined the team as their new technical director. With over 10 years’ experience across the UK and Europe, Nazarov has worked agency-side and client-side for brands including PizzaExpress, London Business School and O2.

His specialities include empowering existing enterprise web-based systems with predictive analytics and personalisation, designing and developing sustainable ecosystems solutions and evolving top brands throughout their technical journey.

Sedley Place

Creative agency Sedley Place hired Lara Farnham as design director.

Farnham will work alongside managing director Mick Nash, planning director Giles Calver, and head of business development Ron Cregan,on the senior management team. She will be responsible for all 2D design and will be based at the agency’s London office.

Farnham has 20 years’ experience within the industry, with time at world-renowned consultancies including Event Communications, where she was head of creative design, and Portland Design, where she was director of branding and graphics.

RadiumOne

RadiumOne has appointed WWP mobile leader, Jonathan Tom, as head of mobile programmatic for EMEA.

Tom will be responsible for developing RadiumOne’s mobile programmatic offering as it continues to expand across Europe, as well as providing guidance and support to agencies and brands.

He will sit on the European executive board and report to European managing director, Rupert Staines.
