Citing purchases made via its student discount scheme the retailer found that students are now far more conscious of nutrition, health, exercise and wellbeing than their forebears to the extent that that the preparation of fresh meals and fruit and veg smoothies are now an integral part of student life.

Amongst the products being snapped up by body conscious students are low fat grills and blenders with healthy eating guru Ella Woodward’s Deliciously Ella now required reading alongside coursework.

Charlie Caroe, of Amazon Student, said: “The days of students mistreating their taste buds and avoiding healthy meals are on the way out, and a new, more health conscious student is occupying halls of residence and student flats.”

Some old habits do die hard however with Cadbury’s Crème Egg multipacks remaining firmly ensconced in fifth position on Amazon’s sales chart.
