An Australian YouTube personality has been exposed as a hoax after one of his “social experiment” videos showing how willing people were to steal from a blind man was found to have enlisted actors.

Adrian Gee's video, shown above, was published earlier this month topping two million YouTube views granting media exposure previously beyond him.

Pretending he was a blind man, Gee supposedly asked random members of the public if they had change of a $5 AUD note. Gee then presented $50, looking to test whether or not members of the public would pocket the money and give him change of the $5.

Gee, who boasts a respectable 189,000 subscribers to his channel, was recently exposed in the Today Tonight news show after investigators tracked down one of the men from the video, despite the fact his face was blurred.

Gee posted a non-apology for the deception on his channel: “The intent behind the video was just to send a message and to make you think.”

“We all know that individuals like that do exist and I personally know people with a disability that have been taken advantage of in a similar situation.”

He concluded: “I had the top three TV networks in Australia basically fighting over me pressing for a TV interview. Initially I wasn’t going to do any but then I reconsidered and thought to myself ‘Why not?’ as most of the stuff they put out to air are all lies what difference will this make.”
