Sky has unveiled its next-gen set-top box as it looks to ensure potential cable-cutters that its service can sate their growing needs.

Sky Q is the company's latest effort at imagining the next generation of TV with the box capable of seamless multi-room and multi-device streaming. One box can provide content on five screens while simultaneously recording four shows at once.

Furthermore, the box also passes as a Wi-Fi hotspot and provides access to YouTube, Vevo and the web – all made possible with a touch-pad remote control. It is touted for a launch early in 2016 and promises ''fluid viewing'; central to its new brand proposition.

Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said: “Sky Q is a brilliant new way for customers to experience TV on their terms.

“We wanted to re-imagine TV so that it’s flexible and seamless across different screens and to put a huge choice of entertainment at their fingertips. We think customers are going to love Sky Q and the great news is that it will get even better with much more to come in the future.”

With the new box comes branding for Sky Q – as seen below.
