We hear a lot about fall TV from the major broadcasters, but what was doing best on Hulu and Netflix as a new season of TV begin? South Park is still going strong on Hulu taking up 24% of the traffic share. Narcos takes the lead on Netflix proving the global success of the bilingual Pablo Escobar drama. Here are the full charts and insights from SimilarWeb.

Hulu

  • Just like Kenny McCormick, South Park refuses to die and, for yet another month, the crude cartoon rules Hulu’s top 10 list, taking 24% of the traffic share. This season’s recurring theme has been political correctness and fans are loving it!
  • Brooklyn Nine Nine had a slow September, but the show gained mass popularity in October and took 10% of October’s top 10 traffic, good enough for the number 2 spot in the rankings.
  • For Hulu viewers, it’s out with Jimmy Fallon and in with Trevor Noah. Noah replaced Daily Show veteran Jon Stewart on September 28th and jumped to the 4th spot in October after not ranking in September. For Fallon, The Tonight Show ranked as the 6th most popular show in September but fell outside October’s top 10.
  • Saturday Night Live is back and Hulu viewers are thrilled! SNL began new episodes in October and though every episode was memorable, nothing beat Larry David’s Bernie Sanders impersonation. With Donald Trump hosting in November, can SNL can jump even higher in our rankings?
  • The Mindy Project, Family Guy, and Empire are all pushing forth with new seasons and all three shows’ traffic share remain relatively unchanged from September to October.
  • In September Hulu viewers were watching Seinfeld in droves and the show ranked third, but yada yada yada it failed to make the cut in October.
  • Fans of Naruto Shippudin have also backed away in October and the Japanese manga show, which ranked 4th in September, didn’t make October’s top 10. Unlike Seinfeld, Naruto did air new episodes in October, but it seems they were unsuccessful in retaining an audience.
  • Rounding out the bottom of the list are 2 superhero shows that also didn’t appear in the September ranking. At number 9, DC’s The Flash took 7% of the traffic, and close behind Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had 6%.

Netflix

  • If you’re a Netflix user, odds are you you’ve already seen Narcos. The show stayed at number 1 for October and even increased its traffic share from 25% in September to 32% in October. It remains Netflix’s top show by a large margin and we’ll see if it can hold the top spot for yet another month.
  • Besides Narcos, October’s biggest winner on Netflix was The Flash, which took 18% of the traffic share and jumped to number 2 after not ranking in September. The Flash and Family Guy are the only shows to appear on both Netlix and Hulu’s top 10 list for October.
  • Horror shows did exceptionally well in October and Halloween likely had a big part in their success. The Walking Dead premiered its sixth season and took the number 3 slot, while American Horror Story began its fifth season and ranked fourth.
  • Last month 8% of our top 10 traffic went to Orange is the New Black, but in October, the show dropped outside the top 10. It’s unlikely we’ll see OITNB back in the rankings until they release new content in summer 2016
  • Rounding out the bottom 3 are all comedies that have been off the air for some time. At number 8, Friends has been off the air for 11 years. The Office, at number 9, has been off for 2 years and How I Met Your Mother which rounds out the rankings at 10th, has been over for just over a year.
  • Notably absent from the Netflix list is Hemlock Grove, a Netflix original series that released its third season in October. In fact, it was the only Netflix original series that released new content in October, but still failed to make our rankings.
