Tesco has taken a different path with its Christmas campaign this year, forgoing the John Lewis model of a big budget, emotionally laden ad in favour of several quick-fire TV spots appealing to busy shoppers looking for ways to smooth out the end of year roller-coaster.

The supermarket’s family centric festive ads promote the helpful practicalities that the supermarket can offer Christmas shoppers in a series of shorts ads staring Gavin and Stacey actress Ruth Jones and comedian Ben Miller from The Armstrong & Miller Show.

The first two in the series launch today (9 November at 6:30pm), with more set to follow in the coming weeks, and each promotes a different aspect the store has to offer shoppers such as traditional Christmas favourites and helpful staff.

Discussing the ‘little helps’ campaign Tesco brand director, Michelle McEttrick said the store wanted to drive home the comprehensive offerings that it has to offer customers. "Whether that’s great customer service from colleagues in store, our delicious party food that’s been developed to allow customers to spend more time with their guests and less time in the kitchen or our award-winning Free From food range, we’ll have everything covered this Christmas," she said.

Tesco will also be unveiling a number of festive-themed ‘little helps’ for customers in stores as part of its wider Christmas campaign in the run-up to the day. Last week, the retailer advertised a position for a “Christmas tree light untangler” in a light-hearted move to help relieve stress associated with the Christmas season and promote the “helpful” aspect of the campaign.
