President Barack Obama has finally made his own Facebook page after more than six years in office.

On Monday, he announced on the social platform that he “finally got his very own page” and that he hopes people view it as a place where real conversations about the most important issues facing the US can happen.

He also took the opportunity to address climate change in his first post, where he wrote: “We’ve got to preserve this beautiful planet of ours for our kids and grandkids. And that means taking serious steps to address climate change once and for all.”

A video shows him walking through his backyard at the White House – which is also a national park - where he encourages viewers to speak out and educate family and friends about climate change to ensure that future generations can enjoy the outdoors.

His Facebook debut comes after he joined Twitter earlier this year.
