Come 8am tomorrow it will officially be the countdown to Christmas as John Lewis releases its highly anticipated ad.

Little has been said on what it will entail. Its creative agency Adam&Eve are on lockdown while the retailer’s normally chatty press team will say nothing other than when it will go live. Of course, this has put the ad industry’s gossip mill into overdrive.

With a little help from an unnamed source, we can set the record straight on what we think will not be in the ad.

A little boy visits the man on the moon

Apparently, there are many out there convinced that the campaign will be about a little boy that hops on a rocket to visit the man on the moon. The retailer’s song choice of Oasis’ ‘Half The World Away’ might have stoked the fire. The Drum has been told not to expect a space child, or a boy visiting the moon but we’re still not convinced as it’s been “teasing” the nation with a number of tweets of late using the hashtag #onthemoon.

A boy and a Big Friendly Giant

Another rumour doing the rounds is that John Lewis was going to run with a variant on the Roald Dahl classic The Big Friendly Giant. In the story, a little girl (seeing a trend yet?) meets kind-hearted giant who has been made an outcast by the other giants. If the gossip were true, the tomorrow’s spot would have seen a little boy embark on a festive adventure with a lovable giant. But, don't bet on it.

Adele

Adele’s recent return to the charts prompted speculation that she might have a starring role in the ad. But that was put to rest today as the retailer appeared to suggest that it will be Norwegian artist Aurora behind the ad's track by releasing the single early.
