Virgin Atlantic has handed its £12m media planning and buying account to PHD, just weeks after it originally announced Havas Media Group's Arena had won the pitch.

The appointment will see PHD handle the planning and buying across on and offline channels for the UK and paid search campaigns in the airline’s destination cities around the world.

Arena was withdrawn from the account amid a conflict of interest 'at company holding level' - likely Havas Media's running of Emirates $150m global media account.

Speaking to The Drum earlier this month Virgin Atlantic SVP marketing and customer experience, Reuben Arnold, had confirmed Arena's appointment.

PHD will start working on the account with immediate effect.
