Nike has unveiled the 2015 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection in aid of fundraising for Oregon Health Sciences University’s (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

In what has become a highly anticipated launch each autumn in Portland, the 12th Doernbecher Freestyle collection was presented during a gala affair at the Portland Art Museum last week.

The program, which began in 2004 at the behest of Michael Doherty, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation board member and creative director of global brand presentations at Nike, has raised over $11m (with $2.013m raised in 2014) to help expand programs and subsidize the cost of care for families in need at Oregon Health Sciences University’s (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Six young patients were chosen to collaborate on designing and creating these one-of-a-kind shoe designs with Nike designers, developers and graphic artists. Whether at Nike HQ or OHSU, this collaboration is meaningful in learning and sharing new skills, gaining new experiences and showcasing their creativity. From Batman-inspired shoes, purchased by Tiger Woods to Spiderman, Sasquatches, unicorns and more, each patient’s story is powerful and informed the unique designs for the collection.

The 2015 Doernbecher Freestyle Collection will go on sale 21 November on nike.com and at select Nike retail locations across the United States and at select Villa and Shoe Palace retail locations, with all proceeds from the sales of the collection benefitting OHSU Doernbecher.
