Sky strikes deal with Disney to show Star Wars: The Force Awakens on TV first
Sky has agreed terms with Disney in a deal which will make it the first UK broadcaster to offer Star Wars: The Force Awakens through its paid-for box-office offering.
The deal continues the 25 year-long relationship between the two companies and will give Sky exclusive rights to what is pitted as the most eagerly-awaited film of the decade.
The multi-year TV agreement includes a raft of other top Disney films such as Pixar’s Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur as well as a string of Marvel Studios superhero films.
Speaking to Tech Radar Sky’s managing director, Gary Davey, said the new agreement means our customers can continue to enjoy the biggest blockbusters like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Inside Out before they are available on any other online subscription service”.
He added “they also get access to a great portfolio of family channels and a growing on-demand library of amazing shows and films which we know they love”.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will arrive on Sky around nine months after its 15 December cinema release this year.
