Hit US sketch show Saturday Night Live has poked fun at America’s obsession with guns with a parody public service announcement designed to satirise firearm ubiquity in the country.

Following a succession of mass shootings the show uses humour to tackle a sensitive issue by depicting host Amy Schumer in a variety of guises whilst interacting with a succession of guns.

This includes caressing receiving a gift wrapped handgun from her boyfriend at a romantic meal and a woman clutching a rifle as she is about to give birth.

As the ad itself explains: “Guns are there. In little moments and big ones. When things fall apart, or it all comes together... wherever life takes you. There are things we all share. Love. Family. Connection. A sense of purpose. And also: Guns. Guns are there. “

The faux public service commercial comes just a week after a mass shooting in Oregon in which 10 people were killed.
