A Pepsi smartphone is reportedly to be released in China in an unlikely branding deal with a yet-to-be-named mobile manufacturer.

The news, which leaked to Chinese media earlier this month, will be expanded upon on 20 October at a Beijing event but represents an unexpected move into the mobile market from the soft drinks company. Although information on the product is slim, Pepsi looks to have licensed out its name and logo to a third party smartphone producer to push the brand in the Asian market.

The image was teased on Pepsi’s Weibo social media account.

The smartphone, dubbed the Pepsi P1, will run on Android, be dual sim compatible and will be priced at around 1,299 yuan (£135).
