Ed Sheeran becomes first Spotify artist to reach 500m streams on one single
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Thinking Out Loud’ is the first single on Spotify to reach the 500m stream milestone, according to data from the company.
The UK-based star is on at least one in four playlists created by Spotify listeners, with his content appearing on over 38 million.
On the whole, his music’s been streamed a total of 2.9 billion times, placing him behind Eminem as the most streamed artist.
The Swedish streaming company also compiled a map documenting the volume of Sheeran fans per Spotify user, giving insights to his reach as an artist on the platform.
Sheeran said: “Chuffed to hear that 'Thinking Out Loud' has had half a billion plays on Spotify. Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing.
"Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and Chill situation."
