Amazon is reportedly in preliminary talks with media giants including CBS and NBCUniversal to have a potential live TV offering carried by the pay TV firms.

Bloomberg quotes individuals privy to the negotiations which it claims have been going on for a number of months. Amazon currently offers only on-demand TV through its Prime Instant Video offering.

Not happy only existing as a digital streaming company, much like Netflix, Amazon seeminlgy wants to diversify its revenue by appearing on traditional pay TV packages.

The channel could be comprised of Amazon original shows and its catalogue of movies Prime subscribers can stream as they please. Furthermore, it could herald the quality of instant video’s content and perhaps even coerce cable cutters to subscribe only to Prime – if Amazon has its way.

Live TV has been on Amazon’s radar since January 2014 if Wall Street Journal reports are accurate.
