Abba Newbery has left News UK months after a shakeup of the team that saw Dominic Carter named managing director of its commercial arm.

As director of strategy for commercial Newbery has pioneered a number of News UK’s most successful initiatives as the newspaper set about an ambitios transformation plan to make it viable as readers turned to digital.

Among the most notable has been championing advertising innovation through research projects such as Project Footprint, a unique research study into Times Digital subscribers’ online and offline purchasing behaviour, and a Neuroscience study designed to understand how people consume content and advertising in print and on tablet.

She also led the team that was behind the strategy that resulted in the development and implementation of the publisher's ad trading strategy, Access One.

It is not known if she has another role to go to.

Dominic Carter, managing director commercial, News UK said: “After six years, Abba Newbery has decided to leave News UK at the end of September this year. Abba started her career with News UK in 2009 as Solutions Director and after a successful couple of years became Director of Strategy for Commercial in 2011.

“After six successful years Abba feels that this is a good time for her to take on new challenges and we wish her success as she continues to develop her career.”

In July, Carter replaced 15-year News UK veteran Paul Hayes as MD of its commercial arm.

Newbery was featured as a Girl Guide in The Drum. You can read her interview where she discussed her career at News UK here.
