Fast food chain Subway is seeking to elevate cheap cuisine into an art form after advertising for ‘sandwich artists’ to help prepare its trademark baguettes.

Carrying connotations of a gourmet makeover for the sandwich chain the ads are in fact not seeking an artisan baker but a bread and butter server to lay and toast its six and twelve inch treats.

Moreover the location for this particular gastronomic challenge sits in the insalubrious environment of a garage forecourt in Romsey, Hampshire.

The minimum wage posting stated: “We are now looking for full and part time Sandwich Artists to help us in our new Romsey Subway store.”

Successful applicants will see their salaries raised following completion of a three month training programme including ‘maintenance of a professional appearance and grooming standards’ and ‘preparing food neatly, according to formula and in a timely manner’.

Sandwich artist is a registered trademark of Subway which also offers promotion to the post of ‘Sandwich Artist Pro’ which encompasses training of newer and inexperienced sandwich artists.
