PlayStation has released a new ad ahead of the 20th anniversary of its first console.

The 20th anniversary of Sony’s gaming division in the US and Europe is on 3 December and PlayStation is continuing its advertising campaign by tapping into fans’ nostalgia in a new two minute ad which recounts the brand’s two decade-long history and encourages fans to share their gaming memories across Twitter using #20YearsofPlay.

The ad shows clips of major events in the brand’s history such as press conferences revealing the PS2, news stories covering the consoles popularity and clips of fans queuing ahead of console launches.

Sony is enjoying great success with its latest console, the PS4, which has been and continues to outsell Microsoft’s Xbox One in Europe and North America. Since its release in November 2013 the PS4 has sold 25 million units to consumers as Nintendo and Microsoft play catch-up.

The brand is approaching the pinnacle of its year-long anniversary celebrations which has included a social campaign using #20yearsofPlay as well as limited edition releases such as 12,300 units of its PS4 20th anniversary console which is a throwback to the original PlayStation console.
