The Roskomnadzor, Russia’s communications watchdog, has blocked access to 11 porn websites including PornHub, for (you guessed it) providing access to pornography.

The ruling was made earlier this week by the Krylov District Court of Krasnodar underpinned by the claim that porn is harmful to the health and development of kids.

The censorship of the Russian language segment of the site sparked outrage on social media as noted in Russian news title Lentu. One Twitter complainant said he was now looking for ‘pornographic asylum’ in the US.

Without sympathy, the official Roskomnadzor Twitter account addressed individuals suffering from porn withdrawal to instead “meet someone in real life”.

The decision comes as the Russian regulator throws around its weight issuing bans on sites such as Wikipedia and Reddit for containing information on illicit drug preparation.

The Drum has reached out to Pornhub for comment.
