Apple could finally be doing something about the battery life of its products as reports suggest the tech giant is testing a new 'fuel cell system'.

Primarily intended for its laptops the fuel cell system could be made smaller for use in iPhones, iPads and the Apple Watch. The changes could see battery life in Apple products improve to last days, or even weeks, between charges.

The fuel cell system works by converting fuel to electrical power and in addition to improving battery life is also more environmentally friendly and compact.

The news follows reports from rival Amazon that it is working on a new Kindle that could last up to two years between charges.

On Wednesday (9 September) Apple is likely to announce plans for the rumoured iPhone 6S, though it is unlikely to feature the fuel cell system at this time.
