Verizon has launched a new logo internally and plans to publicly announce it on Thursday 3 September, Ad Age has reported.

The update follows Google’s logo change yesterday in a move that the search engine said will make it easier for users to identify its brand on mobile screens.

It’s currently unknown which agency designed Verizon’s new logo or why the company decided to change it.

Landor Associates designed the original logo in 2000, according to Ad Age.

The updated version does away with the large red arrow above the ‘Verizon’ name. Now a smaller red arrow appears to the right of the name and the ‘z’ is no longer red – instead, all letters are black and the brand has employed a new font.
