Netflix competitor Hulu, which streams popular shows including New Girl and Scandal, has finally introduced a commercial-free option for subscribers priced at $11.99 per month.

The streaming service said it made the decision to offer an ad-free option due to customer demand. Current subscribers have the option of maintaining their existing subscription for $7.99 per month with limited commercials or upgrading to the commercial-free format for $4 extra dollars a month.

The move comes as Hulu attempts to compete with rival Netflix, whose ad-free streaming options start at $7.99 per month.

Mike Hopkins, CEO of Hulu, said: “Many of our customers have asked us for a commercial free option, and so today we are excited to introduce just that. Providing more choice for consumers is fundamental to the Hulu experience, in addition to an array of choices in content and devices, our customers can now choose to watch with or without commercials.”

According to Hulu, it currently has nine million subscribers while Netflix has more than 65 million.
