A Conservative councillor has apologised for causing offence after distastefully implementing the Carlsberg strapline on Facebook in a post belittling immigrants.

Utilising the strapline, which was recently resurrected by the brewery in a number of interactive executions such as a beer-sharing billboard, beer sharing luggage carousels and specialised hair grooming products, Runnymede councillor Michael Kusneraitis shared anti-immigrant rhetoric on Facebook.

Making light of the deaths of those crossing the Mediterranean for refuge, Kusneraitis posted an image of 14 naked woman partying on a boat with the strapline “If Carlsberg did illegal immigrants...'

The now removed post was picked up by local - and eventually national - media, sparking an apology for the move. On the same platform which garnered the offense, Kusneraitis said sorry.

After reading this mornings local paper I would like to state that it was never my intention to offend or upset anyone...

The Conservative Party told local papers that Kusneraitis is to be investigated for his social media posts.
